Winner's Trophy

After tens of thousands of students came to check out this year's nominees and vote for their favorites, peta2 has selected this year's Most Vegan-Friendly Colleges: the University of California–San Diego and Wesleyan University!

Congrats to all the nominated schools this year. With all-vegan dining halls and more vegan chocolate cake on the menu than anyone could possibly eat, college campuses are more animal-friendly than ever before as a direct result of student pressure.

The number of vegan college students has more than doubled nationwide since 2005, and it only continues to rise as students learn about the routine abuse that animals face when killed for food. With so many delicious and cruelty-free options available at these top schools, there's never been a better time to ditch meat for good.

Large U.S. Schools

1

UC San Diego

In January of 2012, the University of California–San Diego introduced an all-new vegan eatery called Roots! This was great news for students, who now get to enjoy an assortment of scrumptious vegan sandwiches and wraps, such as the Spicy Sierra—made with chopped vegan chicken in house barbecue sauce, with chipotle soy crème and caramelized onions—and El Capitan, a tomato Italian sausage with sautéed peppers, onions, and vegan mozzarella. Other vegan options have expanded all over campus, including the grab 'n' go market, which offers 12 in-house vegan sandwiches and salads this fall.

2nd

Cornell University

Between the Va-Va Vegan Bar, located in Keeton House; One World Café, an all-vegetarian café on campus offering popular dishes such as African peanut stew and a vegan Reuben; and the barbecued tofu with smoked tomatoes and watermelon at the Trillium Café, students at Cornell have good reason to want to re-enroll for as many years as possible. Other must-try dishes include the Tofu Kan delight, orange tamari grilled tofu steaks, dairy-free blueberry smoothies, and vegan black-cocoa cake with vegan ganache.
